Language Tree New Branches: Poetry Competition

We’re excited to announce that our Language Tree New Branches: Poetry Competition is officially open for entries!

Winning poems will be published in a special edition poetry book. 

The competition has three classes and is open to:

  • Primary school students (Grade 3-6)
  • Lower Secondary school students
  • Teachers (both primary and secondary)

We invite participants to submit an original poem based on one of the six following themes:

  • The Weather
  • Nature
  • The Sea
  • Food
  • An Animal
  • A Festival

Poems should be between 8 and 20 lines, written in Standard English, and reflect the personal voice and creativity of each entrant.

Every entry must include a signed permission form (accessed via the competition guidelines).

You are encouraged to include drawn illustrations along with your poem.

The competition will close on Friday 12th September 2025*.

We hope this competition will ignite creativity, support literacy development and celebrate the unique voice of young learners and educators across the Caribbean!
