Highlights from Future Ready, our Jamaican Digital Literacy Event

Highlights from Future Ready, our Jamaican Digital Literacy Event

We were delighted to welcome teachers, education leaders, policymakers and partners to Future Ready: Empowering Jamaican Young Learners Through Digital Literacy, an event hosted in collaboration with Kingston Bookshop and Digital Schoolhouse.

The event, which primarily featured Shahneila Saeed and Estelle Ashman from Digital Schoolhouse as key note speakers, provided a space in which voices throughout education in Jamaica could explore how digital literacy can be embedded meaningfully and sustainably across the education system. Also in attendance were:

  • Dr. Michele Pinnock, Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information
  • Kavelle Hylton, Founder and CEO, STEM Builders Learning Hub
  • Jamilia Crooks‑Brown, Digicel Foundation
  • Nadine Simms, Assistant Chief Education Officer, Ministry of Education

We were impressed by the turnout of the event and are grateful for the energy, insight, and collaboration brought to the session. Our wonderful key note speakers had the following to say about the event:

“It was incredibly encouraging to see such a strong community come together. The room demonstrated a real sense of being united by a shared passion for education. And I could feel how much commitment there was to improving outcomes for every learner in Jamaica. I can't wait to see how things progress.”

— Shahneila Saeed

“Events like this remind us of the power of collaboration, it was an honor to visit Jamaica. By sharing ideas and experiences, we can continue to shape a more inclusive and impactful future for education, worldwide.”

— Estelle Ashman

All attendees have received useful resources to further their professional development and to bring into their schools, institutions and their own work.
